I took this photo on August 11, 2011 when the #Cubs beat the #Nationals, 4-3 at Wrigley Field. I love how Cash and Wells had the fist-pumping going on and were cheering on Marmol on from the dugout! You can also see Byrd, Garza, and Soto in the dugout. This is one of the many reasons why I love the Cubs!
The Cubs have finalized a deal that sends outfielder Kosuke Fukudome to the Cleveland Indians for Triple-A right-handed reliever Carlton Smith, who has a 4.50 earned-run average, and Class-A outfielder Abner Abreu, who is hitting .244.
The Cubs will pick up most of the estimated $4.5 million remaining this season on Fukudome’s contract. Ugh.
Cashner had an MRI after being pulled in the 6th inning of yesterday’s game against the Diamondbacks. He’s been diagnosed with a strained right rotator cuff.
Wells felt stiffness yesterday, after pitching on Monday against the Diamondbacks and being the first Cubs starter to earn a W this season. He’s been diagnosed with a strained right forearm.
Both starting pitchers are on the 15-day Disabled List. Casey Coleman is being recalled from AAA-Iowa and James Russell is being considered for the rotation while Cash and Wells are out.
Ugh, the weather forecast is calling for rain on Friday, which is the Cubs Home Opener. After making it through an extra-brutal winter, it would be nice to have semi-bearable weather for Opening Day at the Friendly Confines. Either way, it will still be a blast!
34 days until opening day for the Cubs!
9 days until Opening Day! Can’t wait to be back at Wrigley, watching the Cubs!
